When I first moved to Portland nearly ten years ago, I was certain that I would only be here for a maximum of six months. I had lived in the Detroit area all my life and couldn't imagine living someplace else long term. After being here just several weeks, I quickly realized that I had ended up in one of the most beautiful urban areas in the country. Portland was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. I came from an industrial area where the focus was very much on the automobile industry. People only walked or biked as a means of recreation. Certainly not for transportation in the Motor City! I love the fact that it is so easy to commute by bike, on foot or using Portland's very accessible public transportation system. This is one of the most livable cities in the country and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to live here.
